Media Link Credibility
Monday, July 20th, 2009Very often when we visit a corporate website or web shop, besides the usual shopping cart link there will also be a media or press release link.
Reputable corporate website or webshop’s media link usually have scanned copies of newspaper or magazine cut-out, videos of news clip from reputable media outlet in the related industry and write-up of major events and product launches from a reputable PR agency. These kind of information provides an extra confidence boost in consumers who wish to purchase products and services from the company.
However a lot of investment related and scamming website and web shop have sprout up all over the Internet. A lot of it have photo-shopped photos of the CEO/director with some country’s president or royalties, some have write-ups from affiliated blogs and worst some even published their own book reviews on magazine and put it up as a press release. Some of these unreputable website and webshop scammed their customers’ fund after the customer have made the payment but no goods or services were delivered.
Some closed down their website after their scams were discovered.
For me, if I were to shop on a website or webshop I will definitely look out for media or press release link as a factor for me to compute the reputation of the business to ensure that I would not be scammed.
