Work Ethics and Personal Space
November 20th, 2009Being a salaried worker or staff, it is generally understood that one has to complete his tasks assigned by his/her superior or senior or whatever task is available and ensure the task is done properly.
So what if there’s no tasks on hand or the assigned tasks has been completed? For me, basically it’s interaction with colleagues, research work-related problems on the net, light chat on IM with friends and a stick of cigarette down at the office building. Occasionally, while doing my task I do also engage in these activities as to give myself some personal space. But I make it 90-10 if I’m really busy as in 90% work stuffs and 10% personal and non-work related, on a not so busy day I keep it to 70-30 or sometimes 80-20.
Some management and HR practitioners does not encourage the use of company resources for personal and non-work related purposes, but some do close an eye as long as it does not neglect his/her duty or overdo it.
So why am I writing the above?
The reason is because when I got home this morning, from the moment I turn on my PC this irritating lazy prick keep IMing on MSN with questions and chats non-stop. This ain’t the first time this irritation lazy prick has been IMing on MSN during office hours non-stop, also what is worst is his action of doing personal and non-work related stuffs at work using his company resources and only spending minimal time on work-related stuffs like,
• surfing non-work related sites
• IMing
• flashing his own video box’s firmware from home at work
• download songs and gloating when his colleagues experience slow internet connection
• listening to his own music instead of what he is suppose to
• blogging every single hour
• posting on facebook every single hour
• twittering every single hour
My best bet his work to non-work related stuffs ratio gotta be 10-90.
And few days ago, this irritating lazy prick challenged me to made a complain to his management. Well, I have did and done that few hours ago via e-mail with a lovely screenshot of his challenge via MSN. Just hope the e-mail I sent doesn’t end up in his and her junk folder.
You might be thinking, how the hell I get his company’s management e-mail? Well, years ago I was working in this IT outsource firm that was the contractor that maintain his company’s server and workstations, remembering some of their e-mail addresses is not a difficult feat for me.
